Rupanya layanan translator bahasa online: Google Translate semakin canggih saja, algoritma penterjemahan kalimat/paragraph terlihat jauh lebih baik,  Yahh… memang apabila kita baca secara seksama terjemahan dari Google Translate ini rada “Ngaco” dan harus di disesuaikan kembali apabila kita ingin menulis ulang dalam bahasa yang diinginkan, namun setidaknya tool ini sangat membantu saya ketika ingin memperoleh terjemahan kasar dari artikel yang saya temui di internet yang berbahasa pengantar diluar bahasa Inggris.

WhatsApp adalah messenger yang tidak gratis

WhatsApp Messenger adalah sebuah aplikasi messaging smartphone yang menggunakan 3G atau WiFi yang bisa mengirim serta menerima pesan, gambar, catatan suara, pesan video,  yang dapat dijalankan pada multiplatform smartphone seperti BlackBerry, IPPhone, Android, Nokia. WhatsApp  sendiri merupakan salah produk unggulan Nokia  dibidang instant messaging untuk menandingi kedigjayaan BBM (BlackBerry Messaging).

Perbedaan utama dibandingkan BBM, WhatsApp lebih bersifat terbuka/open tidak seperti BBM yang hanya berjalan pada perangkat Blackberry saja, identitas pengguna berdasarkan pada nomor telepon, bukan dari nomor PIN, sehingga proses add friend akan lebih mudah, disamping itu apabila aplikasi WhatsApp telah terinstall di SmartPhone maka secara otomatis aplikasi ini akan mengenali setiap kontak telepon yang sudah menjalankan aplikasi WhatsApp sehingga dapat langsung berkomunikasi.

Saya baru menggunakan aplikasi ini sekitar 2 bulan lalu, sebagai media untuk menjembatani fasilitas berkirim pesan menggantikan media konvensional SMS/MMS yang notabene cukup mahal, tidak praktis, dan memiliki keterbatasan dalam berkirim video/foto/audio/gambar. Mengapa saya gunakan aplikasi WhatsApp ini, adalah karena istri menggunakan Smartphone BlackBerry sedangkan saya  tergolong anti BlackBerry (Android+WindowPhone=Oyee) jadilah ambil jalan tengah untuk menggunakan aplikasi ini. Hingga sejauh ini sudah ribuan kali pesan text, gambar, audio, video kami kirimkan melalui aplikasi ini dengan latency waktu pengiriman relatif singkat.

Apabila kita kalkulasikan saja untuk 1 kali sms butuh biaya Rp.350, maka untuk berkirim pesan sebanyak 1000 kali membutuhkan biaya 350.000 itu kalau kita hitung biaya sms biasa, kalau berkirim MMS tentunya biaya akan lebih mahal lagi. Aplikasi WhatsApp yang saya jalankan pada gadget Android hanya menggunakan paket internet dari XL dengan quota sebesar 3 GByte selama 3 bulan dengan harga Rp. 50.000, paket internet ini pastinya bisa digunakan untuk berkirim pesan, browsing, streaming, dll.  Pastinya sangat membantu dalam proses penghematan biaya telekomunikasi.

Namun kabar buruknya adalah aplikasi WhatsApp ini hanya gratis dipergunakan 1 tahun pertama saja, selebihnya ada biaya charge apabila anda ingin tetap menggunakan layanan ini, bisa anda lihat pada official site WhatsApp dialamat http://www.whatsapp.com/android/

Jadi setidaknya anda perlu merogoh kocek kira-kira Rp.13.000 rupiah pertahunnya.  Itu info yang sya dapat dari Official Site WhatsApp tidak tahu apakah nantinya akan berubah atau tidak.  O iya selain WhatsApp saya juga menggunakan aplikasi instant messanging yang benar-benar gratis seperti SKYPE, FRING, NIMBUZZ, GTALK, untuk antisipasi seandainya WhatsApp bermasalah.

Akhirul Kalam semoga WhatsApp ini bener-bener bisa free, karena dibandingkan aplikasi lain fitur WA ini lumayan Oke mendekati BBM nya BB.
